Precision Optical Engineer

EngineeringColoradoFederal clearance eligible$135K–$190K base

Base salary range. Actual offer depends on experience and location. Equity and bonus are additional.

Retroreflectors and laser retroreflector arrays are unforgiving hardware: the physics is settled and the tolerances are not negotiable. You own optical design, fabrication support, and verification for FORGE's precision optics line, from prescription through vacuum qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Own optical design and tolerance analysis for retroreflectors and LRA assemblies
  • Define alignment, metrology, and acceptance test procedures
  • Support fabrication and coating vendors on optical specifications
  • Run verification campaigns, including thermal-vacuum optical performance testing
  • Document optical performance for customer acceptance

Requirements

  • 5+ years precision optics design or test for aerospace or defense hardware
  • Hands-on metrology experience: interferometry, autocollimation, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with space environmental effects on optical systems
  • Eligible for an active U.S. government clearance

What the first year looks like

  • A validated optical design, tolerance stack, and test procedure for the retroreflector and LRA line
  • Thermal-vacuum optical verification running in-house with repeatable metrology
  • First customer acceptance packages delivered with measured performance that matches prediction

Nice to have, not required

  • Zemax, CODE V, or equivalent optical design fluency
  • Coating specification and optical vendor management experience
  • Laser ranging or retroreflector application background
